Planet Green – Review

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

I’m sure this is going to be a post that everyone is doing today but I couldn’t resist.  I’m watching Planet Green right now on Discovery.  So far I’ve been impressed with the actual shows but I do have some comments about the commercials!  If you truly want to have a green channel than I think you should limit your commercials to green products.  NOT like the one I just watched for Kaboom toilet bowl cleaner!  Not exactly a green cleaning product.  What are your thoughts?  I’m sure I’ll have more comments as the days goes on; I’m going to be wasting energy watching the channel today.

Playhouse Disney Goes Green

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

webearthday.jpg

This Earth Day it looks like Playhouse Disney is going green for our kids.  They are advertising for their website already on the tv so go check it out.  While there isn’t too much information on the site I think it is a great place to start with the younger kids in teaching them about the environment.  The printable tips and coloring pages are fun things for any kid.  I know my little one loves to color so I’ll take some of my old work papers and print these on the backside.  The Three-in-a-Row Earth Day Show game is really cute too.  You can play it with your child since it’s a 2 player game.  The questions are easy but it will reinforce why we do some of the green things we do everyday.  Go check it out with your child today.

Also on the site is a listing of the green themed shows they are playing on April 22nd for Earth Day.  It looks like they have environmentally themed shows from 6am until noon.  That’s great!  Guess I better set my DVR to record those while he’s at school that day.

Wa$ted!

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

OK, so I’m a little bored today and started to watch TV while I was working today.  I found this show on Discovery Home called ‘Wa$ted!  Waging war on waste.’  It’s a show from UK (I imagine) and they spend time with a family calculating their carbon footprint and offering them ways to shrink their footprint.  They identify all the little habits that these people have that waste resources.  I’m on my second episode of the day and it’s really a neat idea.  They give the family tips on how to change their behaviors in exchange for money.  After three weeks they come back and tell the families how much they have changed their carbon footprint.  Then they open a trashcan full of money, the last family saved $1600 (actually it was probably pounds or something but you get the idea).  What a cool concept for a show, I wonder how long it will take for it to come to primetime in the U.S.?  I think that this is the key to getting people to change their habits; if they could actually see their savings and see their impact; then we might all begin making huge changes in our lives.

Green Week on NBC

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

I just turned on ‘My Name is Earl’ and I wasn’t expecting a green message.  I guess this week is green week on NBC.  They are talking about phosphate-free soap and carbon footprints.  Anyways, check out www.greenisuniversal.com and see what kinds of messages they are teaching.  Their blog has some interesting topics like ‘Confessions of a Serial Shopper’ and ’6 Energy Scavengers That Get You.’  You can also sign up to get a green text message on your cell phone, how cool is that.  I’m curious to see what other messages they will have tonight.

Another section of the website is ‘Good Green Fun’, they even have your ‘Green Horoscope’…I wonder what mine says.

Pisces:  Your vehicle’s a death trap to animals. Pay close attention to dogs. If you see an object enter the street, a dog may be following it. Although cats avoid cars, they confuse the lights with the car itself. Slow down in case they dart in front of you. And whenever you’re driving in the country, honk to scare wild animals away.

That’s a little disturbing!  I barely drive 5 miles a day, I hope I don’t hit any animals.
