Cross Stitch 101: Supplies

Cross Stitch 101 Supplies

If you follow me on Instagram (@TheEcoChic) then you know that I've taken up a new hobby this year; cross stitch! I'm pretty sure my Grandmother once taught me how to cross stitch using that hard plastic stuff with yarn but I've never cross stitched as an adult (until now).  The only reason I decided to give it a try was because my own Instagram feed was full of friends working on these really adorable projects.  I've always been a crafty, creative person so I figured I would give it a try. You'd think I would have started with a "beginner" project but instead I jumped into a year long sampler pattern from The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery.  Each month you receive a new section of the pattern to work on and at the end of the year you'll have a completed project.  The one I'm currently working on is the Once Upon A Time sampler. When you sign up for the sampler (or any of their other projects) you'll receive an email with a PDF document that lists all the supplies you'll need.  I ... [ Read More ]

Upcycled Tshirt Wreath

Upcycled Tshirt Wreath Tutorial

When decorating for the holidays consider upcycling materials from around your home instead of buying new.  I have a million and one old tshirts that I saved for crafting and couldn't wait to try making an upcycled wreath.  This project was inspired by the upcycled wreath that I made for my daughters room using a bed sheet. Supplies:  2 large tshirts, foam wreath form, and scissors or rotary cutter Time:  1 hour for med-large size wreath Directions:  Cut fabric strips approximately 1-2" by 6".  Tie each strip onto the wreath form with a simple knot.  Continue tying strips to the wreath until you fill up the entire form.  Embellish with a fabric flower. (Directions for the tshirt fabric flower can be found at Emily's Little World blog.)  I used tshirt scraps and braided them to for the hanging ribbon for this wreath.  You can use straight pens to attach the braid to the back of the wreath. Hang your wreath and enjoy!  Happy Holidays!   ... [ Read More ]

How to Use TweetGrid for Parties – Twitter Parties 101

Looking for an easier way to take part and follow a Twitter Party?  TweetGrid is one of my favorite party tools.  Here's a brief tutorial on how to use TweetGrid for parties: 1. How do I refresh my page – it’s appeared to slow down or stick?  DO NOT refresh the page by using the Windows refresh button.  Instead if you select the FULL ADDRESS button at the top of the TweetGrid your grid will be refreshed without having to reset or lose your place. 2.  How do I share my TweetGrid with others?  You can simply click TWEET IT from the top of the grid and a shortened URL will appear in your tweet box.  Select TWEET and you have now shared your TweetGrid with others. 3.  I don’t see my tweets showing up in the grid, why?  There may be many reasons.  First check to see if you added your user name to the 3rd grid and select SEARCH.  You can enter @User or simple User and you can now see when people talk to you AND when your tweets show up in the stream.  If that doesn’t work – you ... Cloth Diapers for Baby Dolls

Doll Diaper (8)

Day 12 - Baby dolls need cloth diapers too! Starting last December (2009) I've been slowly growing confidence behind my sewing machine and sewing up some cute projects around the home.  Lil' B has recently fallen in love with baby dolls and now has three of them.  All of which have bare bums - no diapers included.  I decided last night to look around online and see what I could find for doll cloth diapers.  Thanks to @taprilcrosier and @mrsob1 for leading me to Etsy where I actually bought a few items that I'll share with you once they arrive. However, I'm very impatient and my super mom complex kicked in tonight so I decided to make my own baby doll cloth diapers.  I actually started out making a baby doll sling so Lil' B could wear her baby doll just like I once wore her.  That project took an entire 5 minutes to make (seriously it was that easy) so I found a pattern for doll cloth diapers on Skip to my Lou - a fabulous craft blog that I read almost daily. Here is how my ... [ Read More ]
