My Friend Huggles – Mia and Lil B are BFF’s!

My Friend Huggles Forever Mark

My daughter has a new BFF, Mia.  Look at the smile on Lil' B's face as she met Mia for the first time.  She hugged her and hugged her all night long.  Mia is one of the new life-size (36" in height) character dolls from My Friend Huggles out of Canada.  Mia is one of 6 dolls in the set of dolls who are as unique as their names.  There is Lily, Kira, Sophia, Rubi, Bia, and Mia and they each have their own character trait that they represent.  Mia's special virtue is "honesty."   You can see on the special ribbon tag above that the virtue is explained for the child.  I love the line "Saying I'm sorry is being brave."  What a neat truth to teach to our children.  I made sure that I read over these the virtue tag with Lil' B and talked with her about what it meant to be honest.  We struggle with this one at 3.5 yrs old - she's always telling me "Brother hit me!" when he's in another room playing quietly all by himself. This last image is a picture of Mia's forever mark on her ... [ Read More ]

America Recycles Day with Recycle Kyle

Monday is America Recycles Day - an annual event organized by Keep America Beautiful.  Each year I organize an event for my company to recognize America Recycles Day for our employees.  It's not until later in the week that I can actually teach my children about the outreach efforts.  Fortunately my sons school organizes a Great American Teach In later in the week to allow parents to visit the classrooms and teach the kids about a hobby or profession.  I always choose recycling in support of America Recycles Day. This year I have a new friend to help me talk to the kids - Recycle Kyle and the Global Green Pals.  Kyle and his friends are a line of eco-friendly stuffed toys that can serve as eco-ambassadors for our children.  Each pal has a story to tell - Recycle Kyle of course recycles everything!  Kids can visit the Global Green Pals website to learn more about their favorite eco-ambassador.  For instance, did you know that Kyle is from Seattle where he likes to get around on his ... Eco-Holiday Gift Guide Giveaway #10

Giveaway Alert! Win a Labyrinth Balance Board from Challenge & Fun.   ECO-ngratulations Cindy! You win! Do you suffer from video game and television addicted kids?  Give them a Labyrinth Balance Board this year and you may want to play it with them.  The board is made here in the US from wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).  It includes three small balls that fit on the boards maze.  Place the balls on the board and try to maneuver them from the outside to the inside (or vice-versa).  Just be sure to keep the balls away from the younger babies and tots...chocking hazard!  Challenge & Fun has two different sized boards.  We have the full size board and our almost 7 year old can manage it quite well.  The Jr. board would work well too but I like the challenge of the full size board myself.  Shhhh...don't tell him I've been playing with his toy! Fuji EnviroMAX Batteries – A New Evolution of Batteries

Like most parents our house is littered with kids toys that require batteries.  You can't celebrate a birthday or a holiday without obtaining a few more of those e-toys that are suppose to make your child smarter.  My baby alone is sleeping with 3 stuffed animals that require batteries to send her off to sleepy town more peacefully.  We have a special basket in our pantry that stores all of those excess batteries so that we never have to deal with 'dead' toys.  I even have 2 battery chargers and about 8 rechargeable batteries...however they are always dead when I need to use them!  My son hates it when a toy actually dies because he knows it is usually months before I actually replace the batteries.  Seriously...he has a set of walkie talkies that have never had batteries...and he uses his imagination to make them work!  Shocking I know...but we survived this way as kids, so can he!  Inevitably we all require batteries in our home to make things work.  From the Wii remotes to the ... Picking toys is not easy and there is a toy website called ebeanstalk, dedicated to selecting good, safe learning toys and baby gifts. BUT they need help from moms like me to help pick the toys. The toy they sent is called Click-A-Roni from International Playthings, who makes great baby toys.  Here is a cute little video of Lil' B playing with her Click-A-Roni. It looks like Lil' B likes her Click-A-Roni.  To me it's just another rattle toy but I'm not the one who has to be impressed with it...she is!  ebeanstalk is a great website that uses regular moms to review their products before they add them to their store.  You can shop for great developmental toys by age and also find expert advice from a group of Child Specialists.  Be sure to sign up for their newsletter to receive their promotional offers. ... Ebeanstalk Baby & Children’s Toys

Ebeanstalk is dedicated to a baby's development. And they select the best baby toys matched to a baby's development. To see great information on how a baby grows up, check out the info on their baby toys page. Picking toys for a baby is not as simple as it sounds. Here are some quick baby facts: Toys for a newborn baby: A newborn baby is briefly looking at objects and attempting to imitate facial expressions. They can follow objects with their eyes and usually quiet down, when they are picked up. Toys for a three month old: They will enjoy ‘frolic play', reaching for objects and will repeat enjoyable activities. Believe it or not, they will respond to ‘no' (about half the time) and will start babbling. Toys for a six month old: They'll search for hidden objects (object permanence). They'll reach for themselves in the mirror, play peekaboo, crumple paper, roll from their stomach to their back and even respond to their name. Toys for a nine month old: They are pushing toy ...
