Where do I find my bliss?

Blissdom Recap_10

One of the joys of blogging is being able to go to blog conferences to see my virtual friends; the people I talk with and interact with on a daily basis but rarely get to see.  My primary goal when planning these trips is to learn a few new skills but I always end up leaving with more friends than skills. Blissdom is the perfect conference for blending my goal of learning a few new things and having a good time with friends.  I've gone for the past 3 years and each time I leave with so much bliss.   This years goal was to learn how to use my brand new DSLR camera.  Blissdom always has an exciting photography tract and I knew this was a perfect time to learn. Day one didn't disappoint.  I met up with a large group of ladies for the annual Blissdom Photowalk around the Gaylord.  I didn't know anyone going into the Photowalk aside from a few virtual friends I had met on the Facebook group.  I met up with Jenn from Real Posh Mom who was new to this photography thing too.  We mingled ... Our Holiday Photo Outtakes

Holiday Photo Outtakes

After school today I decided to take the kids outside and attempt to capture the perfect holiday photo for our Christmas cards.  Mind you my children had been in school ALL day.  I was hoping that I could harness some of their energy and get some really cute shots. Instead I ended up with two kids who did not want to take orders from some crazy mama with a camera.  Here are just a few of the 55 photos that I took today that show just how uncooperative my kids were...  He was doing flips instead of cooperating with me. This last one was the best of the bunch and after a little bit of editing (not shown edited here) it ended up looking pretty nice. Lessons learned:  Don't attempt to take photos after school. Don't attempt to take photos when your kids are hungry. Don't assume you'll get a good holiday photo on the first try. Don't try to stage your photos too much. Do have a camera that takes really fast pictures (mine is slow). Do try to ... [ Read More ]

iPhone Photography: The Visual Guide by Alli Worthington

I'm a huge fan of iPhone photography, in fact I have over 40 photography related apps on my phone.  I always have my phone with me and some of my favorite photos were taken from it; including many that you see on this blog. Last week while I was getting ready to pack for our trip I stumbled upon an ebook, iPhone Photography, by Alli Worthington.  I didn't even realize Alli had written an ebook (I'm a bad blogger and don't keep up with what everyone is doing) but I knew it would be good.  If you don't know who Alli is, she is a blogger and the founder of the Blissdom blogging conferences.  She is beautiful, spirited, and incredibly talented.  I immediately purchased the ebook so I could have some reading for our trip. WOW!!  I wasn't prepared for 173 pages full of gorgeous iPhone images, tips, app recommendations, and personal photography advice.  I read the entire thing on our car ride up to the cabins.  I immediately installed several new apps (mostly free) that I'm learning to ...
