Gifts for the Eco-KidsGiveaway Alert! Win an autographed I’m Me! CD by Charlie Hope from Challenge & Fun!  ECO-ngratulations Nancy S! Check your email!

I bet you are saying, “Who’s Charlie Hope?”  I was saying the same thing when I got this CD but I am soooooo in love with her (yes, Charlie is a girl) and her music.  I’m Me! is Charlie’s debut album that features a mix of traditional kids songs and original numbers written by Charlie herself.  I popped the CD in my car and my son and I were instantly humming along to the catchy tunes.  Now it’s become our album of choice as we go back and forth to school each day.

I'm Me frontI’m Me! won silver in the Parent’s Choice Award in 2009 so I’m not the only one who loves Charlie Hope.  I can’t wait to get a copy of her follow-up album World of Dreams to lull my Lil’ B off to sleep.

Eco-Friendly Packaging of CDs

Monday, March 31st, 2008

While I was away on business last week my husband purchased a new CD.  We don’t really purchase many actual CDs anymore with iTunes and other music sites out there now.  However, when it comes to our favorite bands we do buy the old fashioned CD.  He (and he’s not the greenest man around) called me in excitement over what he found inside the CD!  The CD was not packaged in the traditional hard plastic case but in a recyclable and biodegradeable paper case instead.  Wow!  Think about the difference that this one album has made on the environment.  If all CDs were packaged this way think about all the plastic that could be saved.  Now they still have to be wrapped in shrink wrap but I really don’t see how they can eliminate that; retailers still have to consider theft as a major area of loss.

Also, inside the CD was a small (2″ x 2″) peice of paper that explains all of this.  The cool part is that this small piece of paper contains wildflower seeds.  You simply plant the paper and water to see the flowers that bloom!  We’re going to plant it this weekend and I’ll share some before and after photos soon!  I use to work with a lady years ago who was one fo the pioneer papermakers to include seeds into her greeting cards.  Everytime I see them now I always think back and wonder where she is today.  I bet no one envisioned that you would see seed paper inside of a CD.

PS…if you’re wondering what CD we purchased…Counting Crows, Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings.  We’ve never been disappointed with any of their albums and we certainly love this new one!  Thanks Adam and the Crows for thinking outside the box with the packaging and for bringing us a new album to enjoy!
