What Makes a Lennar Home “Mommy Certified?” #MommyCertified

Spacious Rooms #MommyCertified

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Lennar Tampa. The opinions shared are my own. For the past few months I've been working on the Mommy Certified campaign with Lennar Homes of Tampa.  Before I started working on this campaign I wondered, "what exactly is a Mommy Certified home?" Think about all of the things on your dream home "wish list" and this is probably what a Mommy Certified home includes.  Take a few minutes and watch this short video about what I think a Mommy Certified home is. To view on YouTube: http://youtu.be/04mU9eEPReM To summarize the video's main highlights: 1. A Mommy Certified home should be in your perfect community.  What do you look for in a new home community? Conservation lots, community pools, play grounds, or centrally located to a popular city.  Lennar Homes communities are located nearby all the major parts of Tampa and surrounding areas. 2. Spacious Floor Plans.  We all need a little more space in a home don't we?  Even in the smaller ... [ Read More ]

Sleepover Survival Tips For Parents

Sleepover Survival Tips For Parents

...and when I say parents, I really mean you - mom! At 11 years old my son has only had about 3-4 sleepovers and they've all been at our house.  I'm starting to wonder if sleepovers are still a "thing" that kids do.  Regardless, this past weekend my son convinced me that he should invite 2 of his good friends over for a sleepover. It gets better... ...he also invited the 5 year old sister of one of the boys to have a sleepover with my 5 year old daughter (they go to school together also). That's right, my son convinced me that having 5 kids in my house this weekend was a good idea!  Did I mention that I decided to go buy a car on the same day as the sleepover?  With 2 kids? By myself?  Um, yeah.... After visiting 3 car dealerships with 2 bored kids and signing the papers to my brand new Jeep Cherokee, I rushed home to a messy house to welcome 3 additional kids over for the night.  I must have still been on my "new car" high because I welcomed these kids with a huge smile ... 5 Reasons Skating Rinks Need Open Bars for Parents

Source: http://www.seskate.com/news/older-news/items/60-skate-mate-trainer.html

We are nearing the end of the second week of school and I just survived the first school skate night of the year....barely!  I am convinced that every skating rink needs to have an open bar for the parents and taxi's waiting outside to take them home afterwards. 5 Reasons Skating Rinks Should Have Open Bars for the Parents 1. Your kid doesn't know how to skate!  It's only been 2 months since she last practiced with her friend but she was terrified because of all the big kids on the rink.  She decided to cry instead. 2. Your child's friends skate better and faster than they do!  Her little BFF just wanted to skate and had no fear.  They both had their little PVC trainers (see here if you don't know what I'm talking about), but her friend was faster than her.  She decided to stop and cry instead of catch up with her friend. 3. Big brother is skating with his friends and not little sister!  Big brother is (finally) confident with his mediocre skating abilities and is off ... [ Read More ]

Simple Fruit Leather Recipe

Homemade Fruit Leather @TheEcochic

What happens when you put GoGo Squeez applesauce in a food dehydrator?  You get a super easy and incredibly tasty fruit leather recipe! My husband just bought a food dehydrator and I've been having some fun playing with different fruits and veggies for the past 2 days.  Today I decided to have a little fun with fruit leather (aka: fruit roll ups).  When I searched online for different recipes, most of them used pureed fruit or applesauce.  That's when I heard "ding, ding, ding" in my head and this brilliant idea was formed.  Instead of making fresh applesauce (because really, who has time for that) or running to the store for a jar of applesauce, I pulled out 3 pouches of GoGo Squeez. Our dehydrator came with the handy plastic trays specifically for fruit leather.  All I did was pour out 3 pouches of GoGo Squeez applesauce (you can pick any flavor - or mix it up and have a LOT of fun) on the tray and spread evenly.  I could have easily added 2-3 more pouches if I wanted a thicker ... EcoCentric Mom Box July/August Review

ecocentricmom_july14

If you’ve been visiting The Eco Chic for a while, I hope you’ve signed up for ecocentric mom boxes by now.  I’ve been revealing my mom boxes for over a year now and each one if so much fun to receive.  If you’ve signed up, leave a comment below and tell me what you are liking most about the mystery subscription box service full of eco-friendly goodies for mom and baby. The July/August box was great as always and of course I devoured the apple chips by YogaVive upon opening the box.  I’m a sucker for eco-friendly, healthy snacks and I loved the chocolate apple chips.  The only other food related items in this months box were from Natural Suburban Everyday Herbal, including a Summer Herb Garden Savory seasoning pack and an herbal tea blend.  I haven’t cooked with the herbs yet but I hear they make an amazing veggie quiche.  The “Need a Little Sunshine” tea was very uplifting and sweet. This months box was full of health, beauty and well-being related items.  There are a few samples ... [ Read More ]

Winter Has Hope #DolphinTale2

Senior trainer Abby with Winter and Hope

Did you know that Dolphin Tale 2 the movie is coming out September 12th?  I had the honor to be invited to a press junket this weekend in Tampa.  I'm still waiting for someone to wake me up and tell me it was all a dream. We started the weekend with a family trip to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium for a behind the scenes tour of the facility.  During the tour, David Yates (CEO of the aquarium) sat down with us to tell us the story of Winter, Hope, and the Dolphin Tale movies.  We also got to talk with one of the senior dolphin trainers, Abby Stone.  Both of these individuals shared with us why Winter and Hope are inspirational to so many people and how the aquarium continues to work in the local community to protect the wildlife. David started by sharing with us that the aquarium has actually been around since the early 70's in it's current location.  Did you know that the aquarium use to be a waste water treatment facility?  The primary mission of the aquarium has always been ... Type-A Parent Conference Atlanta 2014

As a blogger, one of the most exhilarating and inspiring things to do is attend a blogging conference.  Over the past 5 years I've been to several including a few BlogHers, Blissdom, Mom 2.0, and Type-A.  Each one is different but I always take away something special from these events. Why should you attend a blogging conference? If you are serious about treating your blog like a business, it's a good idea to attend a conference.  You'll learn some very valuable lessons about how to turn your blog into a business AND get paid for it.  Each conference has different areas of blogging that they focus on in their sessions. This year at Type-A there are some pretty exciting sessions.  I'm especially interested in 1) The Hybrid Life - Juggling Blogging and Marketing Careers, 2) Stop Being Scared of Video, 3) Freelance Writing, and 4) Instagram.  There are 3 days full of sessions, keynotes, panels, and receptions. Another reason to attend a blog conference is to connect with ... [ Read More ]

Best Summer Ever!

We started this summer with a plan, I even made an official Summer Bucket List with a few things each of us wanted to do this summer.  I was looking back over my Instagram account this afternoon with my youngest and I'm so excited about how much fun we had this summer.  I'm not writing this to brag or gloat over all the cool things we've done, but rather for me to look back over the best summer ever! It's really hard for me to believe that our 10 week summer is already coming to an end.  I've been a little emotional all day thinking about it.  This was the first summer that I didn't stick my kids in summer camp most of the summer while I worked.  I decided that, as much fun as they have at camp, I really wanted to be part of their summer too.  I have an amazing boss and a flexible job that allows me to sneak away from time-to-time to make memories with my family.  I've paid for that fun by staying up past midnight many nights completing projects, but it's been so worth ... Angelic DIY Liquid Laundry Detergent

DIY Liquid Laundry Detergent Recipe

I've always wanted to try to make my own laundry detergent but I really wanted something simple.  I had read that you can use the Earth Mama Angel Baby Shampoo & Body Wash by itself as a laundry detergent, but I really wanted something with a little more....ooomph! After reading several different versions of recipes consisting of castille soap, I decided to try my hand cooking up a batch myself.  It was really simple and only took me about 15-20 minutes from start to finish. Supplies needed:  1 cup HOT water, 1/2 cup Borax, 1/2 cup Washing Soda, and 1 cup Angel Baby Shampoo & Body Wash (Castille Soap) Directions: Boil 2 cups of water (or bring it to almost boiling, you want it to be really hot). In a bowl or jar, dissolve Borax and Washing Soda in 1 cup of really hot water.  You don't want any powder left in your mixture.  Allow to cool. Once cool, slowly add 1 cup of Angel Baby Shampoo & Body Wash. Gently stir the mixture but do not shake or you'll ... [ Read More ]

New! FuzziBunz One-Size Small & One-Size Large Pocket Diapers {Review}

New FuzziBunz Diapers

What's old is new again!  FuzziBunz is back and better than ever!! Before I introduce you to their new one-size diapers, I thought it would be a good time to meet the new designer behind FuzziBunz's new look; Roy Couvillion.  When the new owners, CRG llc, purchased the intellectual property rights to the FuzziBunz brand back in 2013 they were inspired to redesign the diapers and morph them into the highest quality cloth diapers in the industry.  As a long-time product design engineer (and grandfather of nine), Roy was excited to design the new one-size diapers from the ground up.  With this, the new FuzziBunz One-Size diaper collection was born. The collection actually consists of two separate cloth diapers, the One-Size Small and the One-Size Large.  They are replacing the FuzziBunz Elite and I'm in love with the improvements he's made. You may be wondering, "Why 2 different sizes? How is that a 'one-size' diaper?"  Both of the sizes are intended to take a child from birth ... [ Read More ]
