Why Do I Host Twitter Parties?

Cloth Diapers

Over 2 years ago when I coordinated my first Twitter Party it was to spread the word about modern cloth diapers.  I had joined forces with the Real Diaper Association for an Earth Day celebration.  After that first party I had a few small parties with some cloth diapering companies (and even a few eco-minded companies) to help promote their brand or retail location.  It was a fun way to use social media to raise brand awareness and I am good at it.  I've learned a lot over the past 2 years and I don't host them as often as I use to.  This is mostly due the lack of spare time in the evenings to market myself to new companies.  I mostly rely on word of mouth marketing and it's worked fairly well for me.  It's also a nice way to monetize my blog and it's helped me be able to network within the cloth diapering community. While writing up a summary of last nights Changing Diapers (#changingdiapers) party I realized there is a bigger reason behind why I host Twitter Parties.  Here is what I ... [ Read More ]

Day 7 – 30 Reasons to Love Cloth Diapers

RDAHolidayParty_edited-1

Who said these had to be in consecutive order?  Oh I've so enjoyed my internet break but I've missed you all so much!!!  Have you missed me?  We snuck away on a small cruise to Mexico to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday aa a family and it was so fun to be offline for FIVE whole days - not knowing what was going on in 'my' real world.  When I left you last I had begun a series of 30 Reasons to Love Cloth Diapers inspired by a post by Natali Morris over at CBS Eye on Parenting.  We were on Day 6 (or should I say Reason 6) on why I love cloth diapers and I shared with you my favorite prints.  Today is actually a special day for cloth diapers - the Real Diaper Association is releasing their brand new 2011 RDA 100% reusable cloth diapers photo calendar featuring 12 adorable babies and their even cuter fluffy bums!  This is the second year that the RDA has produced a photo calendar and it's one of their annual holiday fundraisers.  You can get a sneak peak at the winning photos on the RDA ... Birth of a Cloth Diaper Advocate

Day 5 - Birth of an Advocate.  Making a commitment to cloth diapering doesn't just affect you and your immediate family.  You will soon realize that you will be teaching others about cloth diapers each and every day.  In the early days you will be introducing cloth diapers to your spouse and other family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles) and friends.  They will have similar questions and concerns as you do and it's easy for use to fall back info disposables in an effort to not cause any conflicts amongst our loved ones.  But you have the power as a parent to teach these people instead of giving them a 'get out of fluff free card.' My husband wasn't hard to educate since we were both learning together.  My mom was (and still is) one of my biggest supporters.  Having used cloth diapers on both me and my brother she was extremely excited to use these new modern cloth diapers.  My mom used a diaper service when we were little so she didn't have to wash her diapers but she did have ... Tell Everybody the News – #RumparoozMusic

rumparooz_snap_ecoowl

This has been a very busy week for my friends over at Rump-a-rooz.  This past weekend they attended a local baby & kids expo where they equipped one Colorado family with a stash of 64 colorful and fun Rump-a-rooz.  They also had their skeptics like the one mom who never thought Rump-a-rooz would fit their chunky little 29lb six month old (yes 6 months) - guess what?  After a trip to the changing table they were proud to find out just how perfect the Rump-a-rooz fit this little man.  In another week the Rump-a-roozteam will be packing their fluff and heading to Las Vegas baby!  It's time for the annual ABC Kids Expo (You can follow #ABCKidsExpo on Twitter) once again where companies and retailers meet up and elope at a little chapel on the strip (OK a very large conference center)!  Anyways, this is the time of year when manufacturers and brands bring out all of their NEW products in hopes to be the 'next big thing' to hit the baby and kids market.  I hear that Rump-a-rooz has ... Three Years Ago –

3Blogiversary

Three years (and one week) ago I bought a domain name - The Eco Chic- and began writing.  Who would have thought that today I would still be writing and (trying) to make my name known in the blogosphere.  Why did I start writing?  There were many reasons but I guess I really wanted to share my tips and advice to living a more sustainable lifestyle with more people.  I have always tried to convince my friends and family that there was a 'greener' way to do things but it wasn't until I started blogging that I really started to implement these steps in my own life. When I started blogging I wrote about the easy stuff and wrote about similar issues that I was trying to implement at work.  For instance, my very first post was a welcome and mention of Pollution Prevention (P2)Week.  It was very short (as were most of my initial posts) but it was my way to start.  I'm not sure how many people actually read my first post (you can read it here:   http://www.theecochic.com/2007/09/) but that ... Plan a Green Halloween & Costume Swap

GreenHalloween

In a little over a month it will be one of my favorite days of the year - Halloween!  I've always enjoyed dressing up and trick-or-treating when I was little.  I remember being so sad when I was in first and second grade because I couldn't go trick-or-treating - in first grade I had pneumonia and was actually in the hospital.  Then in second grade I was sick again but luckily was not hospitalized that year.  I was the oldest child and my brother was so cute and sweet that he would trick-or-treat for the both of us - being sure he would tell everyone that his big sister was sick at home.  When we were a little older we spent most of our Halloween nights with our good family friends and used his HUGE neighborhood to stock up on candy for the year!  I remember one of the last years we all went out I even dressed like Madonna (circa 1980's) - which wasn't too far away from my normal clothes but it gave me an excuse to cake on the make-up.  Now as a parent we have our own traditions.  ... Meet Kelly Wels – Owner of DiaperShops.com

jennkellyme

During my long weekend in NYC for BlogHer I had the opportunity to bond with one very awesome lady - Mrs. Kelly Wels- the owner of DiaperShops.com, Kelly's Closet and The Cloth Diaper Whisperer (stop laughing Mel and Cindy - my besties IRL who giggle at me and my online life).  I made plans ahead of time to meet up with Kelly for multiple reasons - primarily because I didn't really know a lot of other blogger's and neither did she.  Kelly has always been willing to work with me on both of my blogs and with multiple projects related to cloth diapering and I was super excited to finally meet her in real life.  What I didn't expect was to come home with such a wonderful new friend. Kelly is married and has three adorable little kids ages 12, 10, and 2.  Her oldest (Olivia - 12) helps out in the warehouse and is learning the business quite well.  When asked if she was done having kids the response was "I don't know!"  She purely loves being a mother and raising her kids - in cloth ... Yes – another #BlogHer10 post you should read! Really!

I remember about a year ago when I first joined the Twitter community seeing the numerous tweets about how excited everyone was to be going to BlogHer 9.  Each year 1000-2000 women (and yes some men) come out from behind their computers and meet one another.  As a newbie to all the madness I just watched from behind my screen as the events of the weekend were revealed.  There were parties (and a ton of them), there were giveaways, there was swag, there was controversy, and there were friendships formed - all while networking and learning the tricks of the trade.   As the year went along I kept seeing announcements about BlogHer 10 hitting New York City in August.  I would read them and keep going to the next blog without giving it much thought.  As I continued to grow my blogging empire (ok - my online persona) and with the introduction of Eco Chic Parties I continued to yearn for more knowledge.  None of my friends are bloggers so I don’t have anyone to reach out to locally when ...
