A Much Needed Blog Break

Confession: My last blog post was almost one month ago! I've been blogging now for going on 8 years and sometimes I just don't have the time to blog. I have a ton of great blog posts (and a few sponsored posts) that I could write, but after I've worked online all day in social media the last thing I want to do is blog. I promise I'll find my blogging mojo again soon and bring you some fun new content!! You'll be here when I get back, right?? Want to follow little glimpses in my daily life?  Be sure to "Like" and "Follow" me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. ... [ Read More ]

Techie Gift Gear Ideas

Techie Gift Gear

If you are anything like me, this is the week you scramble trying to find just the right gift for everyone on your list. I do most of my shopping online so this is THE week to get stuff ordered so it will arrive in time.  Here are just a few of my favorite techie finds this year that may or may not be found under the tree on Christmas morning. Powerslayer by Velvetwire: Can you ever have too many iPhone chargers laying around? In a house full of techies we're always fighting over the cords and you can never find them all when you need them.  With my old iPhone 5, I would constantly need to charge it because the battery was shot.  With the Powerslayer you eliminate wasted power because it automatically turns itself off once your device is fully charged.  Once my phone reached about 90-95% the Powerslayer would shut off; you could tell when the LED indicator on the front shut off.  The Powerslayer comes with a very long braided USB cable and a felt and leather travel case. I loved ... [ Read More ]

Type-A Parent Conference Atlanta 2014

As a blogger, one of the most exhilarating and inspiring things to do is attend a blogging conference.  Over the past 5 years I've been to several including a few BlogHers, Blissdom, Mom 2.0, and Type-A.  Each one is different but I always take away something special from these events. Why should you attend a blogging conference? If you are serious about treating your blog like a business, it's a good idea to attend a conference.  You'll learn some very valuable lessons about how to turn your blog into a business AND get paid for it.  Each conference has different areas of blogging that they focus on in their sessions. This year at Type-A there are some pretty exciting sessions.  I'm especially interested in 1) The Hybrid Life - Juggling Blogging and Marketing Careers, 2) Stop Being Scared of Video, 3) Freelance Writing, and 4) Instagram.  There are 3 days full of sessions, keynotes, panels, and receptions. Another reason to attend a blog conference is to connect with ... [ Read More ]

CoSchedule Editorial Calendar for Bloggers

CoSchedule Editorial Calendar for Bloggers

I don't normally share my blogging secrets on my blog, but I have to tell you about CoSchedule Editorial Calendar for bloggers.  I have never been a very scheduled blogger and typically just schedule and share things as they are relevant.  I know that most successful bloggers are more disciplined and depend on their editorial calendar.  When I saw a fellow blogger recommend CoSchedule I just had to try it out. Take a minute and watch this video on how easy it is to share your content right from your WordPress blog using CoSchedule.  On YouTube: http://youtu.be/uK3un3Wt_Qo When you sign up, you'll get a free 14 day trial period with CoSchedule and you'll get to test out all of the features.  I figured, "what can it hurt?" right!  After signing up and connecting my social media accounts and my blog I didn't think much of it.... ....until I logged back into the admin portal of WordPress and started to blog.  Wow! Right there on the admin panel I can write my blog post AND ... [ Read More ]

Carvel + Nutella = Heaven in a Cup (or Cone)

From now until Sept 30th you can indulge on the delicious Nutella inspired recipes at Carvel ice cream shops.  The popular hazelnut spread has been added to their soft-serve, hand-scooped and sundae dashers for your summer enjoyment. “We could not be more excited to offer our handcrafted Carvel ice cream with Nutella® hazelnut spread as an exciting treat this summer,” said Carvel President Scott Colwell.  “Nutella® has such a loyal following and we know our guests will be thrilled that it’s being paired with our fresh ice cream.” What are some reasons you might be stopping by Carvel this summer?  With the kids out of school for another 2 months I'm sure I can think of a few reasons. To reward your kids for reading over summer! To salvage a crappy day from complete disaster! For a family night out on the town! For a mom's night out without the kids! For a date night (again, without the kids)! For a cool treat after a long day at the beach! For those lazy ... [ Read More ]

Best of 2013 – The Eco Chic Edition

Best of 2014

It's been a pretty crazy year for our family but it's been great!  I wouldn't have changed a thing.  I'm glad that you've joined us as we continue our parenting journey...on the green side when possible! I wanted to share with you some of my favorite posts from 2013 along with those that you've read the most!  If you haven't read them yet, I hope you enjoy them. Starting off 2013 I shared my lack of baking abilities as I attempted to make Hello Kitty cake pops.  My post "How to Make Hello Kitty Cake Pops" even made the Pinterest Fail blog this year.  This year I'm letting someone else make lil' B's birthday cake...that's in 4 days!! Next up is a little bit of sass with some not-so-popular baby registry items.  When I wrote this I was showing how some of the "popular" baby registry items can provide crutches to overly tired new moms.  It received some supportive and not-so-supportive comments due to my sass.  Perhaps I shouldn't have added the crib as an item you don't need ... My New Type-A Conference Friends

Has a week already passed since Type-A conference in Atlanta??  I guess that's what happens when you jump right back into life with 2 feet running at full speed. What did I learn at Type-A?  This was my first time at this conference and I was actually pleasantly surprised at how small and intimate it was.  I was always running into the same group of ladies and feel like I really got to bond with many of them.  For the learning side of things I feel like my expectations are altered from what they should be.  I've been blogging since 2007 and I know a lot of the basic and intermediate things about social media.  Heck, I could probably have taught some of the sessions myself...but I've never really thought about that before. I did learn a few things about Google+ and why I should embrace it, even if I don't really like it. I was motivated to update my media kit; which I promise to finish before the end of the week. I learned what semantic markup is and know that I need to ... [ Read More ]
