Save a Tampon – Put A Cup In It

#putacupinit

Join the #putacupinit movement and help save the tampons from the landfill.  The idea behind put a cup in it came from a road trip that Kim and I took last month.  While we were stopped at a rest area taking a pee break we both had very similar inspirations while in the public bathrooms.  There was a sign above the toilet that asked patrons not to flush their feminine hygiene products.  What if cup users all around the globe could help introduce menstrual cups to more people with a simple sticker? Imagine you're sitting there in the loo changing those annoying tampons or pads and you saw a sticker like the one above?  Would you get online and look it up?  Would you visit the website to see what a cup was?  Would you be intrigued enough to do a quick search right there on your cell phone? When I first heard of menstrual cups over 5 years ago, I would have told you that you were crazy and that I will NEVER EVER get a cup....ewwww!!! Now, just like the thousands of other ... Confessions of a Chocoholic

Confessions of a Chocoholic

There's really no use in hiding my secret any longer, I'm a chocoholic!  Ok, so I guess if you follow me on social media then it's really no big secret that I have a love affair with chocolate.  My #chocolateaday hashtag on Instagram may have given that away! For the most part, my addiction to chocolate is very mild.  I have my limits and I am good at moderating my chocolate intake.  My husband actually laughs at me because I can make a full size Godiva bar last for 2 weeks by only eating one square a night.  It's just enough of an indulgence to cure my craving. I prefer dark chocolate because the rest of the family won't touch it.  I can keep it in the house longer that way. I really only eat chocolate at night, but if I'm having a rough day I'll sneak a piece during the day. My mother was a chocoholic before me, I blame it all on her!  She's still a chocoholic and I have to hide my "good stuff" when she comes for a visit.  Shhhh.....she reads my blog! I like my ... Ecocentric Mom Box Review October

EcoCentricMom

The mailman once again delivered my small box of eco-friendly goodies (sent to me for review from Ecocentric Mom - affiliate link).  My mail guy (Jeffrey) knows when to bring the bundle of goodies to my door and when to leave them in the mailbox; this is one of those times when he knocks. Since his deliveries have become later and later in the day, I have to fight my kids for a few minutes of peace while I open MY box.  I explain to them that MAYBE I'll share some of the goods with them....MAYBE! I slowly cut a slit in the packing tape and find the pretty pink tissue paper staring up at me with love. I resist the urge to rip the paper and tear into the goods.  Instead I gently pull open the tissue paper to see what awaits me.  This month was fun, and I did end up sharing a few things with my kids. The Duck & Goose Find a Pumpkin book came just in time for my newest little bookworm to enjoy for Fall.  You can find this adorable board book (and other books by Tad ... [ Read More ]

What Makes a Lennar Home “Mommy Certified?” #MommyCertified

Spacious Rooms #MommyCertified

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Lennar Tampa. The opinions shared are my own. For the past few months I've been working on the Mommy Certified campaign with Lennar Homes of Tampa.  Before I started working on this campaign I wondered, "what exactly is a Mommy Certified home?" Think about all of the things on your dream home "wish list" and this is probably what a Mommy Certified home includes.  Take a few minutes and watch this short video about what I think a Mommy Certified home is. To view on YouTube: http://youtu.be/04mU9eEPReM To summarize the video's main highlights: 1. A Mommy Certified home should be in your perfect community.  What do you look for in a new home community? Conservation lots, community pools, play grounds, or centrally located to a popular city.  Lennar Homes communities are located nearby all the major parts of Tampa and surrounding areas. 2. Spacious Floor Plans.  We all need a little more space in a home don't we?  Even in the smaller ... [ Read More ]

EcoCentric Mom Box July/August Review

ecocentricmom_july14

If you’ve been visiting The Eco Chic for a while, I hope you’ve signed up for ecocentric mom boxes by now.  I’ve been revealing my mom boxes for over a year now and each one if so much fun to receive.  If you’ve signed up, leave a comment below and tell me what you are liking most about the mystery subscription box service full of eco-friendly goodies for mom and baby. The July/August box was great as always and of course I devoured the apple chips by YogaVive upon opening the box.  I’m a sucker for eco-friendly, healthy snacks and I loved the chocolate apple chips.  The only other food related items in this months box were from Natural Suburban Everyday Herbal, including a Summer Herb Garden Savory seasoning pack and an herbal tea blend.  I haven’t cooked with the herbs yet but I hear they make an amazing veggie quiche.  The “Need a Little Sunshine” tea was very uplifting and sweet. This months box was full of health, beauty and well-being related items.  There are a few samples ... [ Read More ]

Ditch the Baggies – 10 Uses for Zippered Snack Bags (Reusable of course)

MaxwellDesignsSnack15

This post is sponsored by Maxwell Designs.  Keep reading to find out how to enter to win your own reusable zippered snack bag like the one shown here!  Have you ditched disposable snack and sandwich bags from your life yet? What are you waiting for?  Disposables are such a waste of money, single use plastic, and destined for the landfill (if they made it that far).  Many disposable snack bags don't even make it to the landfill and end up littering the streets and eventually finding their way to our waterways and endangering wildlife.  There is a simple alternative - reusable zippered snack bags!!   With kids going back-to-school this month, it's a great time to add a few snack bags to your lunchbox arsenal and a simple step in "going green!"  These bags are latex-free, BPA-free, and do not contain DEHP, formaldehyde, brominated flame retardants, or lead.  I bet you didn't even think about what was in those disposable bags, did you??   These bags are fabric on the outside and ... Angelic Baby Shower Gifts for Mom & Baby

Mama & Baby Care Basket

Ask my friends, I don't do traditional baby shower gifts.  I rarely even look at someone's baby registry because I know exactly the types of items that the new mom will swoon over. Even if they are not planning on using cloth diapers, I usually give them just a little touch of cloth in their gift.  I always give them a copy of Changing Diapers book by Kelly Wels and I usually highlight a few of my favorite sections.  With the book I usually try to give them just one cloth diaper so they can touch it, feel it, and maybe even use it for one of their new baby photos (because they are just so much cuter in pictures than disposables).  Yes, I have friends who have never used their cloth diaper, but I hope that it will find it's way to a mom who will show it some love. Next up, I like to shower the new mom with some angelic gifts from Earth Mama Angel Baby.  Most people forget to give the mom things that are just for her and her changing body.  Regardless of if the mom is having a ...
