#JustBeYou with prAna & Oh My Yog {Coupon Code & Giveaway}

#JustBeYou Giveaway

  This post is sponsored by prAna and Stonyfield Yogurt If there's one thing that I've learned over the last 40+ years, it's that all you need to be in life is YOU. As a child I always wanted to be just like the other girls, those popular girls. I wanted to have the perfect hair, the perfect clothes, and the perfect friends. What I didn't realize at the time was that I'm not who I wanted to be when I was little.... ...I'm better! I look back over the profile pictures on Facebook of those girls I wanted to be like, and I realize that I'm more than happy with who I've become and who I've always been. I don't want to be "just like them" any longer and I wouldn't want to be anyone else but me. Oh, how I wish I had learned that 30 years ago. This was me today after a full day at work, after homework was done, and after dinner was in our bellies. This is how I looked at 8am this morning when I left to take the kids to school and the only difference right now is that I've ... [ Read More ]

R.W. Knudsen Cider & Spice Float {and Giveaway}

Cider and Spice Float Recipe theecochic

Sponsored by R.W. Knudsen It's finally starting to feel like Fall in Florida, and by that I mean it's only in the 80's for a high and we can pretend that it is Fall and slip on our boots again. The mornings are cooler and a tease of what Fall would feel like anywhere else, but our ACs are still on by mid-day! Last weekend we went to a pumpkin patch and corn maze about an hour north of Tampa and I may have come home with a sunburn on my shoulders. The kids were hot and sweaty but they did get a taste for fall with the apple cider, kettle corn, and pumpkins! As we get ready for Halloween night festivities I decided to try a twist on apple cider for those of us in warmer climates, a cider and spice ice cream float! It was super simple to make and only required R.W. Knudsen Cider and Spice apple cider, ice cream, caramel syrup, and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. To make it a little more fun, chill the mug (or mason jar) so it's nice and frosted for your little ... [ Read More ]

8 Food Allergy Friendly Halloween Treats

Food Allergy Friendly Halloween Treats

The Teal Pumpkin Project is becoming more and more important these days as children are facing life-threatening food allergies. The most common of the food allergies is nut-allergies; but don't forget about wheat, soy, and gluten allergies. For families who don't have children with food allergies, we may not think about our Halloween candy choices. I know that I'm a sucker for my Reece's cups but I'll be leaving those inside my house this year and not handing them out to the kids. If you still want to offer up sweet treats or snacks for the kids here are a few options that are food allergy friendly. Stonyfield Organic Fruit Snacks - My kids reach for these more than they reach for candy. I'll be the first to admit that they are pretty tasty and satisfy my sweet tooth. Yum Earth - Yum Earth makes sour beans, lollipops, and gummy bears that are from natural real fruit juice. I'm a fan of their sour beans and they come in small individual serving sizes perfect for ... [ Read More ]

My 6 yr old thinks she’s a Vampire

Rewind to August at meet the teacher night.... Her teacher asked her what she liked and my daughter said, "Vampires!" It's been over two months now and my six year old still tells her friends that she's a vampire. She told me today that her teacher said, "Oh Bailey, my little Vampire," and that one of her friends thinks she's actually a vampire. I purchased her Halloween costume on clearance late last year, a beautiful Princess Sophia costume.  Guess what she's going to be for Halloween? A Vampire!! Anyone want to buy a Sophia costume? This past weekend a friend asked us to go to a corn maze. My daughter replied that she'd only go if there was blood and Vampires in the corn maze. How far do you let your child's imagination go? Do you encourage their imagination or do you steer them to the more "appropriate" behaviors?? I've never been one for censoring my child, but should we encourage their dark minds? I would be able to handle this better if she were older, after ... [ Read More ]

Starting is Believing

Florida Prepaid

Open enrollment in the Florida Prepaid College plans begins October 15th, 2015 and offers some new options for families who want to get started saving money for their children's futures. This post is sponsored by the Florida Prepaid College Board, through my role as a Believer Blogger.  As parents we have big dreams and expectations for our children when they get older. We want them to be happy, confident, accomplished, and have more opportunities than what we had ourselves. My parents provided for us everything we could have asked for. The one thing that they didn't provide for us was any type of college savings. They were very clear as we were growing up that if we wanted something bad enough, we would work hard for it and achieve our goals on our own. They didn't want to force higher education on us like their parents did to them.  I can respect that and I know that they helped mold me into the adult that I am today. I don't remember ever asking them for help paying for ... [ Read More ]

College Football is the Yin to My Yang

This post is sponsored by Smack Apparel.  The Yin and Yang symbol is an integral part of my being. My astrological sign is a Pisces which is represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions (similar to the Yin and Yang). There are two distinct characteristics that explain my happiness perfectly. I'm still mourning the end of summer vacation and trying to get back in the swing of the new school year. We didn't visit the beach nearly enough this summer for my "Yang" to be content. Aquamarine is still the color of choice on most days and enjoying the sun shining through the sunroof of my Jeep makes me happy. I have bags of seashells dying to be put on display from our recent trip to Sanibel Island. It still "feels" like summer. Every August I mourn that this season is coming to a close. ...but I'm equally as happy for my other side (my Yin) to make an appearance. My favorite color will be pushed to the back of the closet. My shorts will slowly be switched out for jeans. My ... [ Read More ]

Surviving Back to School

I've been dreading this day for a few weeks now, my kids are going back to school today! I have completely enjoyed our laid back summer with no bedtimes, no schedules, no routines, and no car lines. This summer was a little different than usual with my husband traveling more for business, but we managed to find our special moments and embrace them. Just last weekend we were sitting on Sanibel Island listening to the waves crash into the shore and now I'm dreading the stack of papers I'll have to fill out tonight after they get home from school. Preparing for back to school wasn't too dreadful, our school requires uniforms which makes clothes shopping very easy. It wasn't terribly painful on the bank account this year thanks to a big bag of hand-me-downs for my oldest. He should be set for the next 1-2 years even when he hits his growth spurt. The school supply list this year wasn't too bad either. I had quite the chuckle over some of the items on the middle school list though; ... [ Read More ]

How to Use Snap Pliers to Make an Adjustable Waist on Kids Clothing

Adjustable Waist

My kids have tiny waists and are tall, they get this from both my husband and I. My mom was always tacking the waist of my clothes (pre-adjustable waist clothing) as a child. Thank goodness that most clothing these days come with the adjustable waistband. I picked up 2 athletic shorts/skorts for my daughter this weekend at the Old Navy clearance sale and got home to find out they were too big in the waist!! Shocking...I know! Neither pair had drawstrings or adjustable waist so I was going to pull out the needle and thread and tack them to fit.  Then I remembered my brand new snap pliers and thought this might look nicer and be easier to undo when she grows a bit. On the first pair, I only added one snap to adjust the waist.  On the second pair, I added two snaps and I think it's a cleaner finish when it's completed. In less than 5 minutes, we have two pairs of shorts that fit my skinny waisted six year old. What you'll need: Snap press or snap pliers Snaps Small ... [ Read More ]
