We are a family of Seuss-a-holics and as an eco-mama how could I not write about The Lorax? When I first read The Lorax I knew that I had to share it with my kids. I can remember the last time that I read it to my son a few years ago on Earth Day (we borrowed it from the library back then). I’m not sure who the story touched more – me or my son.
You can only imagine my excitement when I heard they were making The Lorax into a movie! I have a date with my kids later this week to watch it on the big screen and I’m going to spend the rest of the week making Lorax inspired crafts and recipes with them.
If you aren’t familiar with the story it’s about the Once-ler who finds these amazing truffula trees and decides to chop them down to make Thneeds. By the end of the story there are no more truffula trees left and all of the animals in town have had to leave to find food, clean air, and fresh water. It’s a very sad story about consumerism and how we constantly abuse our natural resources to make Thneeds (things we need).
At the end of the story we are left with this lesson:
“UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” -The Lorax
I like to think that I care a whole awful lot – I hope that I do! What do you speak for? The trees, the animals, the oceans, the babies, yourself? Whatever it is that you speak for I hope that you care a whole awful lot too.
This past weekend at Blissdom I had the pleasure of meeting The Lorax. He was a furry little fellow who didn’t say a whole awful lot but I think I heard him say “Thank You!” There was a lot of Lorax fun at Blissdom including a copy of the book for my kids, a Lorax themed party, and a fun new t-shirt.
I want to share a little more Lorax fun with you! I have a giveaway of Lorax themed goodies worth $75 compliments of Universal Pictures. Between you and your kids I’m sure you’ll love this prize pack! To enter to win follow the steps in the Rafflecopter application below. I’m very adamant about reducing, reusing, and recycling! I hate throwing things away after one use. Everything has another purpose and we should be using the full potential of every item before we toss it/recycle it. We only have one home and she has to be used by our descendents so lets not destroy her!
Btw, I have LOVED The Lorax since I was a little girl and I wonder if seeing the old cartoon growing up made me how I am today.

I’m thinking of taking my daughter to see The Lorax as her first ever in-theater movie. She is only 2 so I have my reservations, but I’m considering it! She loves Seuss books so I think she’d like the whimsy of this film.
I like to think I care about the environment in general. I cloth diaper, recycle, and plan to start my own little backyard garden when we move to a new house.
